CENTER FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY

(REEE)

CENTER FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY (REEE)

(FORMERLY KNOWN AS THE ENERGY ENGINEERING INSTITUTE)

MISSION: To provide our region with progressive, affordable, clean, and safe energy that leads to independence from fossil-fuel.

Overview of SDSU REEE

The Center was established in 1985 with the primary objective of enhancing the interaction and cooperative applied research opportunities with government agencies, research institutes, and regional industries on subjects related to energy. Undergraduate and graduate students and faculty from:
  • Mechanical Engineering,
  • Chemistry,
  • Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering,
  • Biology,
  • Electrical and Computer Engineering
departments are involved in obtaining solutions to various problems posed by sponsors. Research projects are often incorporated in to the course curricula as senior projects and/or master's theses. Center research areas cover a wide range of topics such as:
  • Combined heat and power systems,
  • Renewable energy resources, wind, wave, solar, etc.,
  • Role of catalysis in clean energy conversion,
  • Nanotechnology in energy conversion,
  • Molecular reaction on solid surfaces,
  • Biofuels,
  • optimization of energy systems,
  • Building energy use and load simulation, HVAC, etc.,
  • Combustion modeling,
  • Optimal design methodology,
  • Environmental issues related to power generation,
  • Energy management and end-use research,
  • Control systems,
  • Performance monitoring,
  • Optimization of power generation facilities,
  • International energy policy studies.
